These 2 words are very similar,  싶다 is used when you want to do something. However, 원하다 is use when you want to have something.

want to
고 싶다(go sip-da)

hope/want/wish
원하다(wonhada)

Example: 
I want go home.
집에 가고싶다 (jib-e gagosipda)

Everyone wants to see that movie.
모두 그 영화를 보고 싶어요 (modu geu yeonghwaleul bogo sip-eoyo)
보고 싶어요 can also means you're missing someone. 

I want to swim.
난 수영을 하고싶다(nan suyeong-eul hagosipda)

I want to learn Korean.
나는 한국어를 배우고 싶다 (naneun hangug-eoleul baeugo sipda)

I want to meet Jang Keun Suk.
장근석 를 만나고 싶어요 (jang-geunseog leul mannago sip-eoyo)

What do you want/wish?
당신이 원하는 게 뭐예요? (dangsin-i wonhaneun ge mwoyeyo?)

What do you want as birthday present?
생일 선물로 뭘 원해요?(saeng-il seonmullo mwol wonhaeyo?)
